Jenny Lind Chapel Swedish Service
Pastor Dan Witkowski from First Lutheran, Moline, will be the preacher at the annual Swedish Service (Högmässa) at the
Jenny Lind Chapel in Andover on Sunday, September 29, at 4 p.m. A lifelong Lutheran, Pastor Dan has served ELCA congregations and institutions his entire life. He holds degrees from Creighton University, Wartburg Theological Seminary,
and Augustana College in Rock Island. He also works as a spiritual director and retreat director. The message will be given
in English. Don Faust from Davenport will conduct the liturgy in Swedish for this Svensk Högmässa service, and Deanna Swanson from Augustana Church in Andover will be the organist. Light refreshments will be served following the service
by members of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island.
Hymn Festival in Galesburg
Internationally acclaimed organist, composer, conductor Dr. John A. Ferguson, Elliot & Klara Stockdal Johnson Professor of Organ & Church Music Emeritus, St. Olaf College, will lead We Sing the Year Round Hymn Festival
at First Lutheran Church, 364 E. Water St. in Galesburg, on Sunday, September 22 at 4 p.m. The Hymn Festival, written and led by Dr. Ferguson, is in celebration of the church’s new Allen organ. A free-will offering toward organ scholarships will be accepted. Everyone is invited to celebrate the addition of this magnificent instrument to First Lutheran Church. First Lutheran offers three distinct worship experiences each weekend:
Saturday 5:30 p.m. Informal Worship in Fellowship Room--
A simple worship experience with spoken word and piano music. Communion is offered weekly.
Sunday 8:15 a.m. Traditional Worship--
A formal worship experience with liturgy and music of the Lutheran tradition. Communion is offered weekly.
Sunday 10:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship--
An upbeat worship experience with contemporary Christian music led by praise teams. Communion is offered weekly.
Children are welcome! Children are welcome in worship at First, where a special children’s message is presented every week
to help our youngest worshippers understand and live God's words for them. While all children are always welcome, a staffed
nursery is provided on Sundays for small children who find it difficult to sit for long periods of time and whose parents desire childcare during worship.
First is handicapped-accessible and we welcome people of all abilities at every worship service and ministry event.
