Music and Arts at First

First Lutheran Church embraces the arts as an opportunity to Share Christ's Love. Children's choirs, praise teams, instrumental groups, adult choir and hand chime choir all provide music for worship services. Instrumental and vocal
soloists share their musical gifts as special music during worship and other events. Artists create visual expressions
that bring meaning, richness and texture to our worship experience. Drama, dance and puppet theater also provide
ways to glorify God and share the love of Christ with others.

There's room in the choir for you! Singers and instrumentalists are welcome to join any of the music ministries at
First at any time.

Sonshine Choir: A vocal choir for first through third graders that rehearses from 4:30–5 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Celebration Choir: A vocal choir for fourth through sixth graders that rehearses from 4–4:30 p.m on Wednesdays.

Faithtime Troupe: An opportunity to explore the use of drama, art, movement, and puppets in worship. First through third graders will participate from 4-4:30 p.m. and fourth through sixth graders will participate from 4:30-5 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Psalm 150: An instrumental ensemble for seventh through twelfth graders that rehearses from
5-5:30 p.m.
on Wednesdays.

Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. All adults are invited to join. The Sanctuary Choir provides worship leadership and special music at the 8:30 a.m. Traditional service. A love for singing, worship,
fellowship and fun is all that is required.

Praise Teams lead worship and provide special music at Sunday's 10:00 a.m. Contemporary service. Vocalists and instrumentalists rehearse as scheduled by the Director of Worship & Music.

If you have any questions about any of these music and arts ministries, contact Melinda Wildermuth, Director of Worship
& Music at 944-3196 (mwildermuth@firstgeneseo.org).

First Music and Arts Fund

Last year, the church council approved a resolution to establish a First Lutheran Music and Arts Fund. Steve Hawk, member
of First Lutheran and a church administrator at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport recommended establishing this fund
as a method to provide for supplemental funding of the First Lutheran Music and Arts program, specifically for expenses not directly provided for in the annual budget such as music, stage and prop supplies, special performance fees, expenses associated with special performances, church décor and artwork, seminars at First Lutheran, puppets, and anything else deemed necessary by Melinda Wildermuth, Director of Worship & Music, and Pastor Arthur Bergren. Money in this fund is not to be used for anything covered by the organ and bell fund or for capital improvement. If you have enjoyed the Big Band worship service in the park, children’s musicals, jazz worship on Transfiguration Sunday, the Sanctuary Choir presentation
of The Messiah, or special decorations and artwork, consider donating to this fund. Checks can be made payable to First Lutheran Church with a note in the memo line indicating the donation is for the “Music and Arts Fund.” Thank you.
