Confirmation First

First's Confirmation is a two-year program for students (7th grade and older) in which adolescents explore their faith,
ask questions, grow in their knowledge of Scripture and the church, and build relationships.

At regular times throughout the year the students also engage in service projects and social events. Friends are always welcome to attend, and you do not have to be a member of First in order to participate in our confirmation activities.

We will kick off a new year on September 5 with 13 students returning for their 2nd year of classes and about

7 new students. 2018-2019 is our Catechism year, so we will study the Apostles’ Creed, the 10 Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, Holy Baptism, Holy Communion, and then spend time with the question “What does it mean to be a Lutheran Christian in this place and time?” Each week, Pastor Laura (or Pastor Matt on occasion) teach the lesson and then adult mentors lead small group activities and Haylee Gustafson, Director of Youth & Family Ministries, leads some games. Here’s our schedule:

• September 5Martin Luther

• September 12The Reformation

• September 19The 10 Commandments – Part I

• September 26 — The 10 Commandments – Part II

In June, we had 8 of our confirmation youth go to

LOMC Camp in Oregon, IL. They had a chance to go

canoeing, hiking, ziplining and learn more about God’s

love and grace. It was a fun experience for all of them!
